In the 2018 declaration during Trump’s first term, the US explicitly stated its non-recognition of Russia’s annexation of Crimea and pledged to support this position until the full restoration of Ukrainian borders
President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the US adopted the “Crimean Declaration” in 2018 during Donald Trump’s first term, which recognized the territorial integrity of Ukraine. The head of state stated this on Telegram on Wednesday, April 23.
Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine acts in accordance with its own Constitution and expressed confidence that partners, including the US, will also be guided by “strong decisions.”
In confirmation of the US’s consistent support for Ukraine’s territorial integrity, the president published the text of the 2018 declaration, in which the US explicitly states its non-recognition of Russia’s annexation of Crimea and pledges to support this position until the full restoration of Ukrainian borders.
“It is good that five countries met (in London – ed.) to bring peace closer. Ukraine, the USA, Great Britain, France and Germany. The parties expressed their views and respectfully accepted each other’s positions. It is important that each party was not just present, but also worked meaningfully. The American side shared its vision. Ukraine and other Europeans presented their achievements. And we hope that it is precisely such joint work that will lead to lasting peace. We are grateful to our partners. Ukraine will always act in accordance with its Constitution, and we are absolutely confident that our partners, in particular the USA, will act in accordance with their strong decisions,” the head of state emphasized.
