The Trump administration has quietly suspended the processing of applications for the “Green Card” from certain categories of foreigners. In particular, from refugees who are in the country.
This was reported to journalists by sources who chose to remain anonymous, writes “24 Channel” with reference to “CBS News”.
Why were “Green Card” applications suspended in the USA
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently ordered officials to suspend the processing of applications for legal permanent residence submitted by immigrants who have received refugee or asylum status.
Subsequently, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed the journalists’ reports, stating that the suspension of “Green Card” processing is “necessary” to implement two executive orders issued by President Donald Trump.
«USCIS ставить тимчасову паузу в завершенні певних заяв про кориґування статусу (Green Card – ,24 Канал’) до завершення додаткової перевірки та перевірки для виявлення потенційного шахрайства, громадської безпеки або проблем національної безпеки відповідно до виконавчих дій пана Трампа», – мовиться в заяві DHS.
In a presidential proclamation cited by officials, Trump directed federal agencies to “verify to the fullest extent practicable all aliens seeking to be admitted to, entering, or already present in the United States.”
Trump administration officials have also announced plans to more closely scrutinize the social media accounts of immigrants applying for legal status, including U.S. citizenship, Green Cards, and asylum. USCIS says this is necessary to “enhance the vetting” of people because it is a matter of “national security.”
